The Story Behind OATX Scrubs: Why I Created a Brand for Healthcare Heroes
After spending years on the frontlines of healthcare, I realized that we often show up for patients with more care, resilience, and passion than we sometimes show ourselves. We push through long hours, heavy workloads, sore feet, emotional shifts, and time away from family, and we do it with a commitment that is rarely seen in any other profession.
Yet, despite the importance of the work we do, the uniforms we rely on every day rarely reflect it.
I remember finishing 12-hour shifts feeling uncomfortable in scrubs that lacked structure, faded too quickly, and didn’t feel like they were made for people working demanding, high-impact jobs. I’d walk into hospitals and clinics full of brilliant, hardworking professionals wearing uniforms that didn’t support them. Not in durability, not in comfort, and definitely not in confidence.
That’s where OATX Scrubs born.
Born From Lived Experience
OATX was created by a healthcare worker for healthcare workers. Our styles, fabric choice, and detail come from real clinical experience, what we wish existed, what we need to move, breathe, and work better, and what our patients see when we walk into a room.
Scrubs shouldn’t just be “clothes.” They are part of our identity. They influence how we feel, how we present ourselves, and even how we perform in high-pressure environments.
Why It Matters to Me
The Canadian healthcare system is filled with people who give so much of themselves physically, emotionally, and mentally. I’ve witnessed colleagues go above and beyond, even when they’re exhausted, understaffed or overwhelmed. Their dedication is powerful. It deserves to be respected in every way, even in the details we often overlook.
Creating OATX Scrubs is my way of honouring that dedication. It’s a thank-you. It’s a love letter to my community. It’s my commitment to help us feel supported, equipped, and seen.
